Changes and growth of a small town in time of normalization - the example of Benešov u Prahy

The thesis deals with the transformation of Benešov u Prahy from a backward town with nine thousand inhabitants to the centre of Podblanicko area with almost twice as many residents. The change did not come easily. The inhabitants and offices dealt with many problems ranging from inadequate transport and business networks to insufficient capacity in school facilities. Within twenty years (1970s and 1980s), Benešov underwent an immense transformation, which is evident at first sight. Prefabricated housing estates were built on the outskirts of the town and in densely built-up areas that had been redeveloped for building purposes. Not even the monuments escaped this remediation. The present-day appearance of Benešov is largely a reflection of fifteen to twenty years of construction activities in the monitored period. How has Benešov changed over the 20 years of the reporting period? What kind of transformation have all parts of the town undergone (center, peripherals)? Was it possible to offer sufficient capacity (housing, work) to new arrivals and old residents? How did Benešov cope in terms of services (education, transport, apartments, business network) with almost twice the number of inhabitants? An Outlaw Journalist's Journey through an Era Decadent and Depraved: Hunter S. Thompson in the context of America of the 1960s and early 1970s.

The thesis aims to explore the artistic personality of Hunter S. Thompson, one of the most distinctive cultural figures of post-war America, and his genesis as an author, journalist, and a counterculture idol of the 1960s. The era is now widely regarded as a turning point in contemporary American history as its deep-rooted values and norms were, over the course of a decade, gradually transformed by the young generation of social and political activists toward allegedly a more tolerant and liberal kind of community. Crucial in such an endeavor was the role of the countercultural movement that produced some of the most capable intellectual minds of the time, including Thompson. The paper thus analyzes the role and nature of the alternative culture in America as perceived by one of its most observant participants. Also, the thesis focuses on the author's role in establishing a new genre called New Journalism which can be linked with the era's countercultural efforts as well. In general, Thompson, in his texts, examines various phenomena surrounding the counterculture and provides us with a distinctive portrayal of the era's zeitgeist. Slovak and Czech architecture of the 20th century 60: Comparison of selected buildings

Abstract The bachelor thesis deals with the determination of the basic common features and the differences between Slovak and Czech architecture of the 60s and 70s year of the 20th century. It is based on a comparison of four selected representative pairs of buildings, architectural monuments (Monument of Slovak National Uprising in Banska Bystrica and completion of the tower of the church of the Virgin Mary and St. Jeroným, Cyril and Metod, Vojtech and Prokop in Prague), crematoriums (Bratislava and Zlin), University campuses (Slovak University of Agriculture and the Czech technical University in Prague) and bridges in the urban environment (SNP bridge in Bratislava and Prague Nusle Bridge). The comparative analysis is preceded by the insight on the development of the Slovak and Czech architecture in the 20th century, focusing on the 1960s and the question whether in the joint Czechoslovak state existed two specific national schools. Comprehensive responds is given in the final chapter by summarizing the results of the comparison of selected buildings. The analysed buildings are graphically and photographically documented.

Reflecting the media of the 1970s and the 1980s - in-house periodicals published by Czechoslovak television and Czechoslovak radio

The thesis "Reflecting the media of the 1970s and the 1980s - in-house periodicals published by Czechoslovak television and Czechoslovak radio" disserts on the content of the quarterlies Televizní tvorba (Television production) and Rozhlasová práce (Radio production). The magazines which were published within two main - in that time already institutionalized - mass media were major tools serving to the KSČ, the communist party in former Czechoslovakia. Through them it was accomplishing its ideological, or more precisely propagandistic performance targeted to both, the citizens of the socialist state and abroad. Within this platform the thesis inspects the topics handled by then TV and radio employees, the following output of the discussions and their conclusions. The qualitative analysis of the two periodicals includes an introduction summarizing the historical facts that illustrate the situation of the end of the 1960's and the beginning of the 1970's. In addition, a list of periodicals published by Czechoslovak television and Czechoslovak radio for its internal use has been attached.

Barbora Skálová Whose side are you on? Radical Left in postwar Finland - on the phenomenon of Marxism-Leninism outside the Eastern Bloc Abstract The dissertation aims to explore the phenomenon of a radical left movement - Taistoists - which at the turn of the 60s and 70s for a short period of time dominated the student and cultural circles in Finland. The dissertation strives to shed light on the reasons for the uprise of the - in European context unique - pro-Soviet, Marxist-Leninist and "anti-anti- establishment" youth movement, and on its influence on home and foreign policy of Finland in terms of so-called Finlandization. The work also puts the movement into the Czechoslovakian context, mainly in relation to the 1968 Warsaw Pact invasion. The dissertation discusses the theoretical anticapitalistic background of the movement and compares it to the theoretical background and political practice of coeval New Left movements in Europe and the USA. The experience of the members of the movement has been elaborated in the oral history part based on personal interviews. The oral history chapter aims to offer an explanation and a broader perspective of the taistolaiset phenomenon presented by direct witnesses and participants of the movement.

Feminist photography in the 1970s and 1980s as a tool for political and social change

My bachelor thesis is going to be about feminist photography of 70s and 80s of the 20th century as a tool for political and social change. At the beginning, a brief history of feminism will be presented. This part of the work will also be devoted, for example, to the reasons that led to the fact that there were not big women artists in the history of art and inequality between genders in history. After introduction into the historical context, Im going to focus on the reasons why the medium of photography is the right tool for political and social change and why this medium was used by feminist artists of the 70s and 80s. Afterwards i will focus on individual issues that the feminist artists thematized. It contains for example rape and violence against women in general, the right to decide about your own body, abortion issues, the use of pop culture to break down stereotypes, self- portrait as a tool to fight traditional image of feminity, the issue of raising girls versus boys, and the conflict between "white" and "black" feminism. The conclusion of the thesis will summarize the practical impacts of feminist art on society. South Korean Nuclear Program and the American Support of the Authoritarian Regime

The issue of nuclear proliferation on the Korean Peninsula and the question of legitimacy and support of the nondemocratic leaders are some of the current political challenges. The roots of the Korean nuclear pursuit reach all the way back to the 1970s when the authoritarian South Korean president Park Chung-hee ordered the launch of the so-called Project 890. The United States, Soul's protector and sponsor of many years, had to find a way of how to deal with that situation and to consider their alliance with South Korea. This thesis is mostly an analysis of the American support of the South Korean authoritarian regime at the end of the 1970s. The main aim is to evaluate whether it was possible for the US to reduce its economic and military assistance at the end of Park's rule and to promote the democratization of the country. It tries to explore the factors, which influenced the US decision. Subsequently, it verifies Owen and Poznansky's theory on the existence of two conditions needed for the US to be willing to stop supporting the pro-American authoritarian regime and to allow the democratic elections to take place. Italian and German Left-Wing Terrorism in the 1970s in a Transnational Perspective

The dissertation thesis concerns with the issue of the left-wing terrorism in Italy and Federal Republic of Germany in the 1970s. The chosen topic is approached using the methods of transnational studies, which have been thus far applied only exceptionally in the relation to this phenomenon, despite the numerous parallels in different countries. The focus of the research lies in the analysis of the German-Italian terrorist network as a whole, the contacts between the organizations and mutual influence. The direct and indirect comparison of the cooperating terrorist organizations is also a substantial part of the thesis. The protest movement, which spread at the end of the 1960s and from which emerged the future terrorist groups as its most radical branches, was an important transnational phenomenon itself. The first chapter concerns with the analysis of this movement, emphasizing the reasons of its inception and its stances on political violence. The student and worker aspects of the movement are introduced, as well as older roots in the anti-fascist resistance or in the work of the Marxist authors. The Great Inflation of the 1970s and it's impact on the contemporary FED

This paper deals with the period of the 1970s Great Inflation in the United States and its impact on the present Federal Reserve System. The seventies after the oil shock were in the United States a period of the so-called stagflation, a mix of high inflation, high unemployment and economic stagnation, or recession. The role of the Fed in this era is discussed. The main thesis of this paper is that the Fed during the Great Inflation has changed markedly, with the basic goals and approaches remaining at the Fed till nowadays. An analysis of the period is made. The author concludes that the period of the Great Inflation really had a major impact on the transformation of the Fed, which more closely resembles its present form than in the post-war era.
